Tinker, Make, and Learn

Makerspaces are increasingly being looked to as a method for engaging learners in creative, higher-order problem-solving through hands-on design, construction, and iteration (New Media Consortium Horizon Report K-12 Edition). 

In an effort to help educators plan and create a Makerspace, Jana Scott Lindsay and I facilitated a summer short course entitled Tinker, Make, and Learn. We believe that deep learning happens on the way to creating something purposeful and of personal interest. The workshop was described as:
Invent. Create. Make. Classrooms are being redesigned and changing to encompass creative environments, such as Makerspaces and coding. In this session, we will look at web-based tools and apps which can be used to build a place for creativity, collaboration, and connections.

Throughout the day, there were opportunities to build something with others and to share ideas and gain new insights through collaboration. The web tools and apps we shared are curated below:
